ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of COPD in people over 60 years old in Chaohu City, Anhui Province, and explore the risk factors affecting the occurrence and development of COPD, and to provide a data basis for formulating prevention and control measures of COPD. Methods Permanent residents over 60 years old in Chaohu City were selected as the research subjects. The subjects were selected by multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method. All research subjects were divided into two different groups according to the diagnostic criteria of COPD and received questionnaire survey and pulmonary function tests. The differences in epidemiological distribution of the two groups were compared by χ2 test. Logistics regression was used to analyze the risk factors affecting COPD. Results A total of 1722 cases were investigated in this study. The prevalence of COPD in people over 60 years old was 13.47%. The average age and body mass index of all research subjects were 70.4±7.5 years old and 20.4±3.5kg/m2, respectively. Among them, 49.25% were males, 20.96% had college degree or above, and 63.88% lived in cities and towns. 23.11% of the subjects still smoked, 32.58% had quit smoking, and 28.16% had a history of passive smoking or were still receiving passive smoking. 16.20% of the subjects had an occupational exposure to dust and particulate matter as coal miners and painters. 51.34% of the subjects had a family history of respiratory diseases. 83.57% of the subjects had other chronic diseases, including coronary heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. There were 232 cases diagnosed as COPD in this study. All subjects were divided into the COPD group and control group according to the diagnostic criteria of COPD. There were no significant differences between the two groups in body mass index, marital status, education, residence, type of fuel used and family history of respiratory diseases. However, there were significant differences in age, gender, smoking status, occupational dust exposure and chronic disease complications between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age (OR70~79 vs. 60~69=2.578, P=0.024; OR≥80 vs. 60~69=4.258, P=0.018), smoking status (ORpassive smoking vs. Active smoking=0.683, P=0.073; ORquit smoking vs. active smoking=0.365, P=0.020; ORNon-smoking vs. active smoking=0.252, P=0.008) and occupational dust exposure (OR=0.158, P=0.010) were the major risk factors for COPD. Conclusion Advanced age, active or passive smoking and occupational dust exposure are important risk factors for COPD.

ABSTRACT

Antrodia camphorata, a well-known and highly valued edible medicinal mushroom with intriguing activities like liver protection, has been traditionally used for the treatment of alcoholic liver disease. A. camphorata shows highly medicinal and commercial values with the demand far exceeds the available supply. Thus, the petri-dish cultured A. camphorata (PDCA) is expected to develope as a substitute. In this paper, nineteen triterpenes were isolated from PDCA, and thirteen of them were the unique anthroic acids in A. camphorata, including the main content antcin K, which suggested that PDCA produced a large array of the same anthroic acids as the wild one. Furthermore, no obvious acute toxicity was found suggesting the edible safety of PDCA. In mice alcohol-induced liver injury model, triglyceride (TG), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and malondialdehyde (MDA) had been reduced by the PDCA powder as well as the main content antcin K, which indicated that the PDCA could protect alcoholic liver injury in mice model and antcin K could be the effective component responsible for the hepatoprotective activities of PDCA against alcoholic liver diseases.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the molecular epidemiology and mechanisms of fosfomycin-resistant Escherichia coli isolates producing extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) isolated from urine. @*Methods@#Fosfomycin-resistant phenotypes were screened by drug susceptibility test in ESBLs-producing E.coli stains. The ESBLs gene and fosfomycin resistant gene were amplified by PCR. The molecular typing was analyzed by multiple sequence type (MLST). The transferability of the drug resistant gene was verified by conjugation assays. @*Results@#Among the 308 strains of E.coli isolated from urine, there were 168 (54.54%) ESBLs producing strains and 18 (10.71%, 18/168) fosfomycin resistant strains. In the drug resistant genes, the incidence of bla SHV was about 88.9% (16/18), bla CTX-M was 77.8% (14/18), bla TEM-208 was 5.6% (1/18), bla TEM-1b was 61.1% (11/18) and fosA3 was 83.3% (15/18). The main MLST genotype was ST131. The conjugation test confirmed the transferability of resistance in fosA3 positive strain. @*Conclusion@#The fosfomycin resistant rate of ESBLs producing E.coli in urethral infection was in a low level. The fosA3 gene was the main mechanism of fosomycin resistance and located on the conjugation plasmids, which should be the main node of horizontal gene transmission. We need to pay great attention to this resistant gene.

ABSTRACT

Objective To determine the relationship between the theory and actual displacement of the urine flow rate meter calibration device gear pump, and to construct a model between actual and theory displacement, in order to obtain actual displacement via theory displacement. Methods The weight of the standard water flow in each flow rate was measured by B2000S digital scales, and the scatter plot between the theory displacement and actual displacement was drawn to find the best fitted curve;then the MATLAB Curve Fitting Tool was used to obtain the best quasi relational equation. Results The error between the fitted displacement and the actual displacement of the gear bump was 1.494% in maximum and-0.010% in minimum, far less than 5% of the requirements for urinary flow meter measurement. Conclusion Based on regression analysis, the relationship between the theoretical displacement and actual displacement of the flow rate meter calibration device is established, the fitting error is small, and the method is simple and easy to achieve.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the 18F-FDG PET/CT features of tuberculous and malignant diffuse peritoneal lesions and to discuss the diagnostic value of 18F-FDG PET/CT in diagnosing and differentiating the lesions. Methods The 18F-FDG PET/CT features of 72 patients with tuberculous peritonitis,28 primary serous papillary carcinoma of the peritoneum and 135 peritoneal metastases confirmed by clinic and/or histopathology, were retrospectively reviewed. The peritoneal thickening features of tuberculous and malignant peritoneal lesions were observed. The maximal standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of peritoneal lesions and ascites, ascites SUVmax/liver SUVmax (T/NT) were compared between tuberculous peritonitis and cancerous peritonitis. The ROC curve was used to analyze the diagnostic efficiency of T/NT, SUVmax of peritoneal lesions and ascites. Results The typical 18F-FDG PET/CT features of tuberculous peritonitis were uniformity thickening of parietal peritoneum, mesenteric and omental stain like changes, widely and even distribution of the peritoneal 18F-FDG, while the cancerous peritonitis was obvious uneven thickening of parietal peritoneum, mesenteric and omental nodules and pie-shape changes, uneven distribution of the peritoneal 18F-FDG. The degree of 18F-FDG uptake was increased in all peritoneal lesions, and there was no significant difference between the tuberculous group (SUVmax=10.53±5.44) and the cancerous group (SUVmax=11.45±6.78, t=1.017, P>0.05). The 18F-FDG concentration in malignant ascites (SUVmax=1.88±0.65,T/NT=0.73± 0.18) was obvious higher than that of tuberculous ascites (SUVmax=1.67±0.69,T/NT=0.57±0.27, t=2.243 and 5.045,both P<0.05). The area under the ROC curve of T/NT, SUVmax of ascites, SUVmax of peritoneal lesions were 0.707, 0.593, 0.536, respectively. Conclusion The 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging can reflect the morphology and metabolic changes of peritoneal lesions. It is important to combine the SUVmax of ascites in order to improve the efficiency of diagnosing the diffuse peritoneal diseases.

ABSTRACT

BRG1 (Brahma-related gene 1, BRG1) is the ATPase subunit of SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complexes, which plays an important role in cell cycle regulation, DNA repair and tumor development. Unlike the evidence as tumor suppressor genes in the past reports, latest researches show that BRG1 plays an important role in sustaining the growth of leukemia cells in acute myeloid leukemia, and these effects on normal hematopoietic stem cells are dispensable. Further studies of the role and mechanism of BRG1 in acute myeloid leukemia will contribute to the development of a new and promising targeted therapy strategy. This article reviews the role of BRG1 on leukemia cells and leukemia stem cells in AML and discusses the related mechanism, which providing some reference for the targeted treatment strategy of AML.

ABSTRACT

Objective Retrospectively evaluate low dose computed tomography (CT) as part of a combined 18F-NaF positron emission tomography (18F-NaFPET/CT) examination in lung cancer patients suspected of bone metastases. Methods 118 of 122 lesions with increased uptake of 18F-NaF were assessed. Characteristics of bone metastases on CT images were reviewed by radiologists. Results 27 of 47 metastases presented as sites of increased uptake with corresponding lytic or sclerotic changes on low dose CT. Other 20 show normal or non-specific appearing bone on CT. Most benign lesions (67 of 71,94%)have a benign appearance on low-dose CT. Conclusions Low dose CT images were useful in precisely diagnosing bone metastasis. Negative low dose CT appearance to the abnormal foci on PET may be a reliable sign of metastases.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the brain glucose metabolism in different stage of mixed-type multiple system atrophy (MSA).Methods Forty-six MSA patients with cerebellar or Parkinsonian symptoms and 18 healthy controls with similar age as patients were included.According to the disease duration, the patients were divided into three groups: group 1 (≤ 12 months,n=14),group 2 (13-24 months,n=13),group 3 (≥ 25 months,n =19).All patients and controls underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT brain imaging. To compare metabolic distributions between different groups,SPM 8 software and two-sample t test were used for image data analysis. When P<0.005,the result was considered statistically significant. Results At the level of P<0.005,the hypometabolism in group 1 (all t>3.49) was identified in the frontal lobe, lateral temporal lobe, insula lobe, anterior cingulate cortex, caudate nucleus and anterior cerebellar hemisphere. The regions of hypometabolism extended to posterolateral putamen and part of posterior cerebellar hemisphere in group 2 (all t>3.21).In group 3,the whole parts of putamen and cerebellar hemisphere were involved as hypometabolism (all t>4.08).In addition to the hypometabolism regions, there were also stabled hypermetabolism regions mainly in the parietal lobe, medial temporal lobe and the thalamus in all patient groups (all t>3.27 in group 1,all t>3.02 in group 2,all t>3.30 in group 3).Conclusions Disease duration is closely related to the FDG metabolism in the MSA patients.Frontal lobe, lateral temporal lobe, anterior cingulate cortex and caudate nucleus can be involved at early stage of the disease.Putaminal hypometabolism begins in its posterolateral part.Cerebellar hypometabolism occurs early at its anterior part.Besides, thalamus shows hypermetabolism in the whole duration.18F-FDG metabolic changes of brain can reflect the development of mixed-type MSA.

Objective:To retrospectively evaluate whole body ~(18)F-FDG PET/CT in depicting the primary tomors in cervical metastatic adenocarcinoma of unknown primary site. Methods:Seventeen patients were included and underwent whole body PET/CT imaging. The primary tumors and metastases were detected by visual evaluation and measurements of standardized uptake values. The PET/CT impression was verified by histopathology and(or)follow-up.Results:In 17 patienis, primary tumors of 13 patients were confirmed by pathological or clinical follow-up.Among them,8 were in the lung,1 in breast,1 in renal,2 in colon and 1 in cervix.Among the other 4 cases,3 cases were correctly diagnosed as malignant lymphoma finally by PET/CT instead of metastatic adenoearcinoma previously. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of PET/CT in were 92.3%,75.0% and 88.2%,identifying primary tumors respectively. After PET/CT examination,10 patients(58.8%)were detected additional metastatic lesions which were missed previously. Conclusion:Whole body ~(18)F-FDG PET/CT may be of relatively higher value in identifying the primary tumor of cervical metastatic adenocarcinoma from unknown primary site.It also may display tumor involvement extent.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the correlation between ~(18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake and hypoxia inducible factor1α (HIF-1α) level, microvessel density (MVD) in human gliomas. Methods ~(18)F-FDG PET scan was performed preoperatively in 41 patients with gliomas (including 23 highgrade and 18 low-grade tumors). The ratios of maximum standardized uptake value(SUV_(max))between tumor (T)and contralateral white matter (WM) were calculated (T/WM).Immunohistochemical stain methods were used to evaluate the level of HIF-1α and measure the MVD in tumors.Correlation analysis between SUV_(max) of T/WM and HIF-1α level,MVD wag performed. The t-test,one-way ANOVA test,Spearman rank correlation and Wilcoxon signed-rank test were calculated using SPSS 11.5 software. Results (1)The SUV_(max) of T/WM,HIF-1α level and MVD in high-grade and low-grade tumors groups were 3.39±1.43,95.7% and 44.13±16.1 vs 1.46±0.55.55.6% and 18.83±7.07,respectively.The difierences of SUV_(max) of T/WM,HIF-1α level and MVD between two groups were statistically significant (t=-5.921,z=-3.938,t=-6.745,all P<0.05).(2)Among 41 gliomas, the strong positive expression of HIF-1α was observed in 8,mederate in 9,weak in 15 and negative expression was found in 9,SUV_(max) of T/WM and MVD increased with increasing HIF-1α level. The differences of SUV_(max) of T/WM and MVD among 4 different groups were statistically significant (F=7.41,P<0.05).(3) The MVD of all gliomas was ranged from 9.76 to 94.52,which correlated with SUV_(max) of T/WM(r=0.759,P<0.05).Conclusions The SUV_(max) of T/WM correlates with HIF-1α level and MVD in gliomas.Therefore,~(18)F-FDG PET provides preoperatively a noninvasive assessment of hypoxia or angiogenesis in human glionma.
